The city in a nutshell:

Sun, beach, party and beautiful people. Miami is not a city for cultural sightseeing, but the ideal destination for relaxing, art and having fun.

Where to stay:

South Beach. It doesn’t have to be right next to Ocean Drive, but the further South the better. Downtown Miami can be an option too, if nightlife is the priority or if you just spend one night in the city, as the hotel quality seemed a bit lower than in South Beach.

The Good:

Excellent restaurants, great bars, world class nightclubs, art, beaches, US sports, perfect weather… it’s almost impossible not to have a good time in Miami. The city is not famous for historical sights, but there are still plenty of activities for everyone.

Art lovers will like the city, not only because of all the exhibitions and Art Basel Miami, but also because of Wynwood and the art déco biuldings. And if all that is not enough yet: how about watching a game of Miami Heat, the Miami Dolphins or Miami Marlins? You will definitely not get bored in this city!

Getting around in the city is quite easy. There are a lot of Uber and taxis. And as distances aren’t that long, it doesn’t cost a fortune.

Nightlife recommendations: we especially enjoyed Club Space and Heart Nightclub. Story Nightclub was ok, but not value for money. Nikki Beach and E11even are too expensive, and especially Nikki Beach is a tourist trap. You will most likely don’t find any locals here.

The Bad & The Ugly:

Let’s get straight to the point: the prices are ugly, especially for hotels and also in bars or night clubs. Activities are expensive as well. If you want to have a really good time, you should budget at least 400 to 500 Dollars per day (hotel, food, activities and nightlife). Miami is the third most expensive city I’ve ever been to after Oslo and Zurich.

Moreover, some bars along Ocean Drive are shameless rip-offs. Always ask for the price before ordering something or they might charge you 30 Dollars for a pint.
