The city in a nutshell:

Sodom & Gomorrha! Newcastle upon Tyne is one of these Northern English cities that aren’t pretty, but are an option for a weekend with focus on nightlife. That’s the only reason though why someone should visit Newcastle, as the city has not much else to offer.

Newcastle upon Tyne: you can skip this city with no regrets

Where to stay:

Somewhere near the central train station.

The Good:

There is only one reason to visit the Geordie Shore: the excessive nightlife. For weekend warriors, Newcastle might be a haven. There are plenty of bars and discotheques in the city, and it seems that the Geordies (that’s how the people from Newcastle call themselves) live for the weekend only.

The Bad & The Ugly:

Newcastle upon Tyne is no beauty. There is not much to see or to do, so if you’re looking for a charming city in the North of the United Kingdom, then head to Edinburgh in Scotland. It’s not far from Newcastle.

People who are NOT into nightlife will find their nightmare in Newcastle. It’s more or less the only thing you can do here, but it’s not a very classy nightlife. You will see people lying on the streets, some of them are puking, and there is also a good chance that you see people fighting each other. Among all nightlife districts, Bigg Market is most probably the worst/the lowest one. This is raw, authentic England.

Of course, there are worse cities in Europe, even in England, but Newcastle upon Tyne is a city you can miss with no regrets. It’s just a city, in which everything focuses on the excess which starts from Thursday night and ends on Sunday evening.
